Spectra Energy Makes the Project Official: Mayor Healy and NO Gas Pipeline Object
Spectra Energy officially filed their project plans with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), the government organization responsible for approving pipeline projects, on Monday, December 20, in the midst of the holiday season. According to Spectra, there have been some changes to the pipeline route and design, but the changes are not significant enough to settle our concerns.
We've always said that a pipeline through Jersey City is unacceptable. Guess what? The pipeline is still planned to run through the middle of Jersey City instead of taking it under the water in New York Harbor on it's way to New York City. We find this unacceptable. And the Mayor agrees.
In a letter submitted to FERC on December 21st, Mayor Jerramiah Healy firmly opposes the plan Spectra has filed with FERC. The letter is available in PDF format.
You will be hearing more from us after the Christmas holiday, so stay tuned by signing up for for our email alerts. We're also on Facebook and Twitter.
It is imperative that you call Governor Christie's office (609-292-6000) and insist that he obtain intervenor standing with FERC to prevent this pipeline from being built through Jersey City.
